Objectives: At the conclusion of the activity participants will be able to:

  • Develop an awareness of programs available to assist physicians who have issues that affect their ability to practice medicine. Differentiate between voluntary and court-ordered programs.
  • Identify situations in which a psychiatrist serves two different roles with potentially conflicting interests.
  • Incorporate techniques to ethically manage psychiatric treatment with competing roles outside the doctor-patient relationship that might impact the relationship.
