MPS Endorses Statement on the Current Housing Crisis
In August, the MPS endorsed the following statement regarding the current housing crisis facing many psychiatric patients:
People without housing are our fellow humans with basic human rights. They are often in their current situations through no fault of their own. They are far more likely to be the victims of violent crimes than the perpetrators. The behaviors of these individuals should not be criminalized. We as psychiatrists and particularly community and public sector psychiatrists are deeply committed to providing unhoused persons with psychiatric services and other supports which they need to survive and move forward in a complex and often hostile world.
