MPS Advocacy on Medicaid and Public Sector
In November 2019, the MPS signed on to two important initiatives that affect Maryland’s public behavioral health system.
We joined MedChi’s initiative calling on Governor Hogan to increase Medicaid reimbursements to be on par with reimbursements under Medicare. This would expand patient access to care by attracting more participating physicians.
We also signed on to the Maryland Behavioral Health Coalition’s recommended system of care improvements. This is in response to the the Maryland Department of Health’s undertaking that examines how the state should provide, administer and finance public mental health and substance use services, with an aim to identify solutions that increase the coordination and quality of somatic and behavioral health care for Medicaid enrollees, ensure cost efficiencies, and promote access to care.
