DESCRIPTION:MPS members are invited to the address by AMA President Patrice Harris\, M.D. at the November 2 MedChi meeting in Hanover\, MD. Harris is a psychiatrist from Georgia who has also been active in the APA. Her talk will run from 8:30-9:30 AM\, with a break immediately following when attendees can interact. There is no charge to attend\, but RSVP with your name and email to Cathy Johannesen CJohannesen@medchi.org .\n\n\nMPS members are also invited to stay for the House of Delegates meeting that day. The MPS submitted a resolution\, Integration of Mental Health\, Substance Use\, and Primary Care Systems and Services\, that will be debated. Another resolution addresses Outpatient Mental Health Clinic Medical Directors. There are over 20 resolutions in all\, with topics like step therapy\, medical cannabis\, gun violence\, physician rating systems\, etc. You can find more information here . There is no charge to attend\, but RSVP with your name and email to Cathy Johannesen CJohannesen@medchi.org .

SUMMARY:Free Half & Half MAT Buprenorphine Waiver Training
DESCRIPTION:7:30 am – 8 am: Registration\n8 am – 12:15 pm: Training\n12:15 pm – 12:45 pm: Community behavioral health partners networking & lunch\n  \nHalf-and-Half Course\nThe PCSS Half-and-Half Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) waiver training course provides an overview of the FDA-approved medication buprenorphine prescribed for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). The course meets the required 8-hour training to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of OUD. The course trainer will conduct an overview of prevention\, identification\, and treatment of substance use disorders emphasizing OUD. \nThe buprenorphine waiver 8-hour training is offered in a ‘half- and-half’ format – 4 hours of in-person training followed up by 4 hours of online training through PCSS-MAT. He has particularly been involved with the development of new strategies to alleviate the symptoms in treatment resistant mood disorders\, and has published numerous articles  on pivotal studies in the use of devices—Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) in the treatment of severe refractory mood disorders. \nGeoff Grammer\, MD – is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University. He serves as Greenbrook TMS NeuroHealth’s Chief Medical Officer\, the largest TMS provider in the United States with over 80 centers.  Dr. Grammer created one of the very first TMS Therapy centers in the United States and is valued as a leading practitioner of TMS Therapy by his colleagues. \nMatt Johnson\, Ph.D. – is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His research interests include human behavior change\, especially in the context of addiction recovery. His expertise is in addiction medicine\, drug abuse research and drug dependence \nAdam Kaplin\, MD\, PhD – is an Assistant Professor of Neurology & Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is the Chief Psychiatric Consultant for the Johns Hopkins MS Center and his areas of expertise include Neuropsychiatry\, Mental Health Information Technology and Psychoneuroimmunology. \nLiz Prince\, DO – is an Instructor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University. Following medical school at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City\, Dr. Prince completed her internship and residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. SUMMARY:MPS Legislative Committee 2020 Session Kickoff Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The MPS Legislative Committee (LAC) is always looking for new members! This Committee pursues the interests of the membership in all mental health matters\, initiating and responding to proposed state  legislation as well as proposed regulations affecting psychiatry.   Committee members also liaison with our lobbyist\, other MPS committees\, MedChi\, and other patient and professional advocacy groups is integral to this work\, much of which occurs during the legislative session from early January to early April each year. Members critique bills and can testify in Annapolis on bills the committee feels are most important. The LAC will hold a kickoff meeting for the 2020 session on November 20th at 7:00PM in the MPS office. If you’re interested in joining the LAC\, or would like to attend this meeting please email mfloyd@mdpsych.org.
