He has particularly been involved with the development of new strategies to alleviate the symptoms in treatment resistant mood disorders\, and has published numerous articles  on pivotal studies in the use of devices—Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) in the treatment of severe refractory mood disorders. \nGeoff Grammer\, MD – is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University. He serves as Greenbrook TMS NeuroHealth’s Chief Medical Officer\, the largest TMS provider in the United States with over 80 centers.  Dr. Grammer created one of the very first TMS Therapy centers in the United States and is valued as a leading practitioner of TMS Therapy by his colleagues. \nMatt Johnson\, Ph.D. – is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His research interests include human behavior change\, especially in the context of addiction recovery. His expertise is in addiction medicine\, drug abuse research and drug dependence \nAdam Kaplin\, MD\, PhD – is an Assistant Professor of Neurology & Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is the Chief Psychiatric Consultant for the Johns Hopkins MS Center and his areas of expertise include Neuropsychiatry\, Mental Health Information Technology and Psychoneuroimmunology. \nLiz Prince\, DO – is an Instructor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University. Following medical school at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City\, Dr. Prince completed her internship and residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. She went on to a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry at University of Maryland Medical Center before returning to join the faculty at Johns Hopkins. \nLindsay Standeven\, MD – is in her last year of fellowship training in Reproductive Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Johns Hopkins. SUMMARY:Free Half & Half MAT Buprenorphine Waiver Training
DESCRIPTION:7:30 am – 8 am: Registration\n8 am – 12:15 pm: Training\n12:15 pm – 12:45 pm: Community behavioral health partners networking & lunch\n  \nHalf-and-Half Course\nThe PCSS Half-and-Half Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) waiver training course provides an overview of the FDA-approved medication buprenorphine prescribed for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). The course meets the required 8-hour training to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of OUD. The course trainer will conduct an overview of prevention\, identification\, and treatment of substance use disorders emphasizing OUD. \nThe buprenorphine waiver 8-hour training is offered in a ‘half- and-half’ format – 4 hours of in-person training followed up by 4 hours of online training through PCSS-MAT. Hunt\, Jr.\, MD History of Maryland Medicine will be Dean Paul Rothman\, MD\, Chief of the Medical Faculty at Johns Hopkins Medical System. In this centennial anniversary of Sir William’s death\, Dean Rothman’s lecture will discuss how Osler’s influence has spanned the century\, with original ideas from the late 1800’s coming full circle and being used in the practice of medicine today. As Dean and CEO\, Dr. Rothman oversees both the School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Health\, which encompasses six hospitals\, a self-funded health plan and hundreds of community physicians. \nThis year’s lecture will take place on Thursday\, June 6\, 2019 in MedChi’s Historic Osler Hall. In the United States alone there are one million suicide attempts and over 40\,000 deaths by suicide every year. Our United States Military is devastatingly impacted with 22 Veterans dying everyday by suicide\, and that is an understatement. \nResearch has shown that for every one suicide death\, over 115 people are directly\, and secondarily effected and the financial cost of suicide in the US is estimated to be over 40 billion dollars annually. Suicide is global public health crisis that is not receiving the attention it deserves and therefore millions continue to die\, and the ripple effects of these deaths continue to devastate parents\, children\, families\, friends and communities. \n“Suicide: The Ripple Effect” is a feature length documentary film and MOVEMENT\, focusing on the devastating effects of suicide and the tremendous positive ripple effects of advocacy\, inspiration and hope that are helping millions heal & stay alive. \nThe film highlights the journey of Kevin Hines\, who at age 19\, attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. \nThe film chronicles Kevin’s personal journey and the ripple effect it has on those who have been impacted by his suicide attempt and his life’s work since.  In addition\, the film highlights the stories of individuals and families who are utilizing their personal tragedy to bring hope and healing to others. \nThis film will shine light on the reality of this ongoing crisis and highlight effective efforts that are helping people stay well and alive. This film is uniting and igniting change that will have a tremendous positive impact on reducing the number of suicides and suicide attempts around the world. It is not just a film; it is a movement. \n  \nAbout the Speaker:  Janel Cubbage is the Director of Suicide Prevention at the Behavioral Health Administration where she works with various stakeholders to increase awareness of suicide and improve preparedness to identify individuals at-risk\, intervene\, and provide support to promote healing and improved quality of life. Janel began her career in the juvenile justice field working with adjudicated youth and later became involved in suicide prevention through her work as a program manager for the Army National Guard. In addition to her work in public health\, Janel is also a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor and continues to work with a diverse group of clients\, previously providing therapy services to individuals incarcerated at Carroll County Detention Center and now seeing clients at a private practice in Columbia. Through her clinical work\, Janel specializes in depression\, trauma\, and suicidal ideation in underserved populations including the African American and military community. Janel is committed to conveying hope\, support\, and connectedness to those in need in all work she does\, whether on a large-scale or individual level. \n  \nAt the conclusion of the program participants should be able to: \n\nRecognize suicide as a public health issue and the impact of suicide.\nIdentify the role of providers in assessing and managing suicide risk.\nLearn of the various resources available in Maryland for suicide prevention.\n\n  \nThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Maryland Psychiatric Society (MPS).   The APA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The APA designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. \nThis activity is approved for a maximum of 2.5 hours of Category I Continuing Education for Social Workers by the Maryland Board of Social Workers. \nThis activity is approved for a maximum of 2.5 hours of Continuing Education for Psychologists by the Maryland Board of Examiners for Psychologists. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
