This session will feature a presentation by Dr. Anna Maria Wilms Floet\, MD. \n  \nFree CME/CEU credit available for participation! \n*CEU certificates will only be awarded to participants that attend for 45 minutes or more of the session. All attendees must complete the activity evaluation form in order to receive CME and CEU certificates.* \n  \nLearning Objectives \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n1. Define Autism Spectrum Disorder in DSM-5 \n2. Describe 2 strategies used in early detection of ASD \n3. List 3 screening tools for ASD \n4. BHIPP maintains responsibility for this program. \n  \nAbout the Presenter(s): \nDr. Anna Maria Wilms Floet is an assistant professor in the division of Neurology and Neurodevelopmental Medicine Program at Kennedy Krieger Institute and an assistant professor of Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Wilms Floet earned her medical degree at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. She completed training in pediatrics at the University of Maryland School Of Medicine in 1996\, where she subsequently completed a fellowship in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics in 1999. She joined the Kennedy Krieger Institute in 2009. Dr. Wilms Floet sees patients through the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD). Her main focus there has been the evaluation of children with possible Autism Spectrum Disorder. She also sees patients though the Center for Development and Learning (CDL) for behavioral and learning difficulties. Dr. Wilms Floet has an active role in the education of trainees at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Wilms Floet’s research interests are on scholarly work in the area of education of trainees at the Kennedy Krieger Institute which includes the use of innovative technology and resources to reach learners at different levels of training.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Healing from Racial Trauma: A Social Ecological Approach (Free CME)
DESCRIPTION:Denese Shervington\, M.D.\, M.P.H.\, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine and the president and CEO of the Institute for Women and Ethnic Studies\, will lead this webinar on the impacts of racialized trauma. This webinar will describe how historicized and ongoing racialized trauma has negatively impacted generations of African Americans and explore multi-level healing pathways utilizing the Social Ecological Model. Learners will be provided with information on the intergenerational biologic transmission of historical trauma and examples of atrocities that have impacted African Americans. In addition\, the impact of community and household toxic trauma on brain development in children will be outlined.

Deb\, Lewis and Means \n  \nSpeaker Information: \nRonald Means\, MD: Dr. Ronald Means is a board-certified psychiatrist in the fields of General Psychiatry\, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. He completed training at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins hospitals and holds faculty appointments at both institutions. In addition\, he maintains a private practice focusing upon forensic psychiatric evaluations of both children and adults.  Dr. Means is the Chief Medical Officer for Catholic Charities of Baltimore. There\, he is responsible for both treating and monitoring the treatment of children and adults with mental health and substance use disorders.  He supervises a staff psychiatrists and nurse practitioners while developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure effective clinical care\, including crisis services for the youth of Baltimore City.  Dr. Ronald Means recently assisted in the creation of the Johns Hopkins University Behavioral Health Support Team – a mobile co-responder program that pairs behavioral health clinicians with specially-trained security personnel to serve the students\, faculty and staff of the university. \nCynthia Lewis\, MD: Dr. Major is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include adult psychiatry\, affective disorders\, community psychiatry\, eating disorders and emergency psychiatry. Dr. Major also serves as the Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Major earned her M.D. from Meharry Medical College School of Medicine. She completed her residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2000. \nArkaprava ‘Arka’ Deb\, MD\, MPH\, MPA: Arkaprava “Arka” Deb is a psychiatrist and preventive medicine physician.  His psychiatric clinical work focuses on adolescent and young adult psychiatry through his position as Director of Psychiatric Services with the Door Adolescent Health Center (New York\, NY).   His teaching and mentorship responsibilities include public psychiatry curriculum development and professional development for psychiatry residents through his position as Director of Public Psychiatry Education for SUNY Downstate College of Medicine (Brooklyn\, NY).   He also works on healthcare payment policy for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services\, US Department of Health and Human Services (Woodlawn\, MD).   He has completed his psychiatry and preventive medicine residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (Baltimore\, MD).  He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Urban Institute’s Health Policy Center (Washington\, DC).   He has worked on Health Policy evaluations and projects at the Local\, State\, National\, and International level. \n  \n  \nLearning Objectives: \nAt the end of this educational activity\, the learner will be able to: \n• Recognize and describe the unique aspects to the provision of crisis care on campus settings \n• List resources Maryland psychiatrists can utilize during a mental health crisis (EPs\, ERPO\, MCT\, etc.) \n• Discuss legal options/interventions frequently used within the emergency department when treating psychiatric patients \n  \nAccreditation Information: \nThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Maryland Psychiatric Society (MPS).
